When my wife died I tried living in the house alone with my dog, but it soon got to be too much for me. Since I retired, I had done the yard work and kept the place looking very nice, but I never did much inside. Theat was Helen's domain and if she needed help, she hired a cleaning person. Helen also did all the cooking and I merely cleared the table and loaded the dishwasher for her. With Helen gone,I soon learned that keeping up the entire house was no job for an old man. There is a seller's market for houses in this area and the real estate agents soon were swamming all over the place. I think they read the death notices for leads to availlble houses. Anyway, I listened to their siren songs and sold out for a price that I never though anyone would pay for our old house. I also called in an auction dealer and made a deal for all our life's accumlation in things, lock, stock and barrel. I bought a used motor home and loaded it with my remaining thngs and the dog and set our on a shakedown cruse to a nearby lake resort. I wasn't there a week when I discovered that not only my house had huge undiscovered value, but I myself had changed from "elderly husband" to "Nice looking,Single man with Motor Home, on the loose." The Female Network put out the word and all of a sudden I became very very popular. I was invited to bar-b-ques,fish fries, card parties, dances, just plain old drinking parties. It seems that the female gender is much hardier than the male and for every widower there are twenty widows. Many of them looking for male company and any sex they can get. From the second week at the lake I never slept alone and learned a lot about sex from these older women. I remember a young friend who told me he always went after older women becaue "They don't yell, they don't swell, and they are gratefull as hell." I myself had been faithful to my wife and never cheated on her. Since we married at a young age, I had little experience with sexual activities, but I was learning fast. This was what retirement was all about. by the end of the month, I was expert with my motor home and RV living and was ready to roam. Money was not a problembecuse I had my pension fumds coming in every month and the money from the sale of the house and effects safely in safe funds that would pay me additional operating cash.
There is only one thing I lacked and that was a base of operations. I needed a fixed address and place to come back to.
Helen and I never had children and I only had two sisters, The older one lived in Canada and had a large family. I did not see much of her and we had never been close even as children. My younger sister lived in the next state and was married to a man who was a Merchant Marine Officer and spent much ttime at sea.
