I met her last summer and for a brief moment I thought it would last forever. I had never felt anything like that before.

She was a couple of years younger than me, but not enough to make it a problem. Her eyes were bright, and her smile dazzling. There was an air of innocence about her, but just a hint of mischief showed through.

I was standing on the pier staring off towards the distant horizon with too many problems on my mind. A sound finally caught my attention and I turned to look at the source only to find my eyes locked into the biggest, grey-coloured, almond-shaped pair of eyes. She watched me intensely with some kind of come-hither look.

I swear, in that moment, life as I knew it was over. I was in a new place. Those eyes captured my heart. I was breathless, speechless, overcome with the need to know what made her so. What had shaped her.

But at that moment my mind went blank. I couldn't make words come out of my mouth to make a coherent 'hello'.

Just then a scream echoed and somebody yelled 'LOOK OUT'. I don't know what happened, but something - somebody - pushed her from behind and she stumbled forward, right into my arms.

"Oh..." was her only response. She was still looking into my eyes.

"Hi." I elaborated so eloquently.

"So sorry..." she whispered in an unfamiliar accent. Reluctantly, it seemed, she pulled herself from my arms and began to walk away. As I stared at this beauty walking away from me, I couldn't help but start to follow. As I took the first step, I saw her turn and look back at me. At that moment, I knew I couldn't let her get away - she already had a hold on my heart.

I had never experienced anything like this before. What could I say that would make her notice me as a person. My mouth was dry. I was usually at such ease with women and here I was a trembling and confused. She walked along and arrived at the bar with me in tow. The bartender looked at us, asking what we would like. I turned to her and asked "what would you like?"
